With few exceptions, Google’s previous Pixel smartphone entries have been underwhelming compared to the leaps made by Apple and, especially, other Android competitors. I think it’s fair to say that changes today with the 6.2-inch Google Pixel 6 and the 6.7-inch flagship Google Pixel 6 Pro.

Aside from the bold redesign that asks consumers to embrace a large wraparound camera band, Google is pushing boundaries on photos, videos, silicon, and, especially, machine learning.

Google is finally matching premium materials which cutting-edge technology that, at the very least, will generate some FOMO among Android enthusiasts, and maybe even the smartphone market, in general.

Let’s start with the Tensor CPU that appears to be enabling all sorts of powerful intelligence across images, photos, videos, and language processing. It struck me that Google said during its Fall Pixel Event on Tuesday that they had to build the Tensor because “Mobile chips simply haven’t been able to keep pace with Google research.” I could just imagine longtime Pixel partner Qualcomm wincing at that statement.
