“Oooh, that’s nice. Can I touch it?” I nodded and handed the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 over.

“Wow. This is glass?”

I nod again.

“It almost makes me want to switch to Samsung.”

“Don’t leave Apple,” someone else chimes in.

“I know. I won’t, but this is so nice.”

She eyes me with an accusatory look, “Why isn’t Apple making this?”

Why indeed. But I say to her that they’re probably waiting for the bendable glass technology to be perfected and for ways to make such a device cost less.

I pocketed the folded, 4.2 -inch Android phone and left the studio where I’d had the handset for a few precious hours, showing it off as part of a gallery of Back-to-School tech items. To be fair, the Galaxy Z Flip3 didn’t really fit the lineup. It was way cooler than all the laptops and tablets, but we wanted a flourish and pitched it as a nice upgrade for the parents of kids who are, say, going away to school. It was a classy way to stay in touch.
